"Traditionally, it's been in downtown, but we have this great VA Hospital and the presence of all the veterans that come here to Lake Nona," Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer told ClickOrlando last November, on the morning of the parade's first year in Lake Nona. "We're gonna try it out this year."
ClickOrlando reported that thousands of people lined the streets for that debut. Dyer counted about 84 entries, which made it one of the city's bigger parades. So the parade is back. The 27th annual City of Orlando Veterans Day Parade runs this Saturday, November 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It's free and hosted with Tavistock and the Lake Nona VA Medical Center. The route has changed since last year, and the change matters if you live here. In 2026 the parade doesn't travel across the community. It starts and ends at Lake Nona Town Center, and nearly everything planned around Veterans Day this week falls within walking distance of that loop.
From Laureate Park to a Town Center loop
The parade spent its first 25 years downtown. In 2023, for example, the route started at Robinson Street and Orange Avenue, used Central Boulevard and Rosalind Avenue, and finished back on Robinson. When the city moved it out last year, the new route started at Laureate Park Elementary School, 7800 Laureate Boulevard, and ended at Lake Nona Town Center.
This year's City of Orlando event page says the parade "will begin and end at the Lake Nona Town Center." It will move through the town center and finish near Boxi Park, which is also where the official ceremony takes place and where sponsors set up vendor booths. A shorter loop centered on Town Center changes two things for people who live nearby. Saturday's traffic impact is smaller and easier to predict. And once the last unit passes, the crowd is already standing next to the ceremony and the food.
The city also gave this year's parade a theme, "Veterans Helping Veterans and Their Families." Because 2026 is America's 250th anniversary, the celebration will pay special tribute to people who have served and highlight the support that military families and service organizations provide. Last year's theme was "Service to our Nation." The new wording points to the VA campus and the organizations working near it, which come up again at the end of this post.
Saturday morning, street by street
Closures start an hour before the first unit steps off. According to the city's road closure notice, these roads close from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.:
- Veterans Way, from Laureate Boulevard to Benjamin Adam Drive
- Benjamin Adam Drive, from Veterans Way to Tavistock Lakes Boulevard
- Lake Nona Boulevard, from Veterans Way to Tavistock Lakes Boulevard
The same notice says temporary no-parking zones may go up along the route, with notices posted. Orlando Police officers will be along the route to help with traffic, and both the closed streets and the times can change depending on conditions. If you have errands or a medical appointment near Town Center that morning, plan to get in before 10 or wait until after 1. Check the closure page again Saturday morning, because that's where any changes will be posted.
For parking, the city says street parking is available throughout Lake Nona, and drivers should follow the signs. Parking is also available where the parade stops, at Lake Nona Town Center, 6955 Lake Nona Boulevard. The garage there can't take large floats, buses or other large vehicles. If you're coming with a group in a large van, or with a parade entry, park on the street.
The city hasn't announced a grand marshal or a 2026 lineup yet. The emcees are set: K92.3's Obie, Chloe & Slater. Last year's entries included Central Florida veteran organizations, active-duty military, high school JROTC programs, and UCF's Air Force and Army ROTC. That gives a good idea of the parade's makeup, though this year's roster could be different.
Seven days around one parade
Saturday is the center of the week, and the days around it are filling in. Boxi Park, at 6877 Tavistock Lakes Boulevard, runs a Veterans Day Weekend from Thursday through Sunday, and nearby Town Center restaurants have a dining offer on Veterans Day itself.
| Day | Where | What's scheduled |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday, Nov. 5 | Boxi Park | DJ, Boxi Park Run Club at 6:30 p.m., veterans discount |
| Friday, Nov. 6 | Boxi Park | VZN Band, veterans discount |
| Saturday, Nov. 7 | Town Center and Boxi Park | Parade 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., ceremony after; DJ Digital and Stereo FM, yard games, photo booth, veterans discount |
| Sunday, Nov. 8 | Boxi Park | John V and The Rundown; bounce houses at noon, face painters and balloon artists at 1 p.m., kids' craft at 2 p.m.; veterans discount |
| Wednesday, Nov. 11 | Town Center restaurants | 20% off food and non-alcoholic drinks for veterans and active-duty military, up to $100 |
Boxi Park's event page says veterans get "a special discount all weekend long." It doesn't list the amount, so ask at the counter. Saturday's yard games include life-size cup pong, cornhole and jumbo Jenga, all set up near the parade's finish. If you have kids, Sunday is the more family-focused day, with activities scheduled hour by hour starting at noon.
The Wednesday offer comes from Lake Nona's event listing. Five restaurants are taking part: Before It Melts, Canvas, Chroma, Park Pizza and Canonita. The terms are specific. It's good on November 11, 2026 only, dine-in only, with a military ID or uniform. Alcohol isn't included, there are no substitutions, and it can't be combined with other offers, coupons or specials. The same listing mentions a 10% discount for service members on any other day of the year. On most days the year-round discount applies. On Veterans Day the 20% offer is the bigger one.
The medical center that brought the parade here
Dyer's reason for moving the parade was the VA hospital. Two weeks before this year's parade, that medical center added something new. On Thursday, October 22, Soldiers' Angels opened its Lake Nona Food Pantry inside the Lake Nona VA Medical Center, run in partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs. According to the Soldiers' Angels announcement, it's the first pantry the nonprofit has ever opened inside a VA facility.
The idea is that veterans can pick up groceries in the same building where many of them already get their health care. Participants "shop" for the items they need most, and veterans have to register in advance to create a food profile. Registration is at soldiersangels.org/get-support/food-assistance/orlando.
The Lake Nona pantry adds to work Soldiers' Angels already does in Orlando. Since 2019, it has held monthly Military and Veteran Food Distributions at the Lake Baldwin VA Clinic, and earlier in 2026 it opened a pantry at its regional office at 711 West Amelia Street. That office pantry also serves active-duty, Guard and Reserve service members. The organization cites Feeding America figures showing that more than 225,000 Orange County residents experienced food insecurity in 2024. It's also looking for community and corporate partners, volunteers and sponsors through its food assistance page.
Town Center will be busy again soon after. Lake Nona's Oh, What Fun! holiday festival runs December 4 through 20, and its first 5K is on Saturday, December 5, with a 7:30 a.m. start.
For military families and veterans who use VA care, being close to the Lake Nona VA Medical Center can shape where they look for a home. If you or someone you know is relocating to Central Florida on orders, or wants to know how a VA loan fits a home search near the medical center, the Franc Marrero team can walk you through it step by step, with no pressure. Schedule a Consultation when the time is right.
